What can BalletMet's Summer Intensive mean for you?
You may be considered for BalletMet's Pre-Professional Program or a Trainee position.
Our Academy is one of the country's largest training institutions associated with a professional dance company. Artistic personnel from the company interact with students in the classroom, offering unique learning experiences to develop technical and artistic skills.
High school students may be considered for the Academy's Pre-Professional Program. Graduates of this program are under contract with BalletMet as well as other professional companies in the U.S. and abroad. Dancers in the Summer Workshop will be under consideration for inclusion in this year-round Program. If you are interested in being considered, identify yourself to the Academy Director. An audition process determines final acceptance into this program.
Upper level Pre-Professional students dance 4.5 hours per day, 6 days a week. Their curriculum includes ballet technique, pointe variations, partnering, jazz, modern and enrichment activities to supplement their knowledge and experience of the dance profession. Learning choreography, rehearsing with the Company and performances complete the comprehensive program.
Dancers on the threshold of a performing career can be selected through the Summer Workshop audition process to be considered for a BalletMet Trainee position, an opportunity designed to help bridge the gap between being a student dancer and attaining a professional career. Trainees earn a one-year opportunity to work with BalletMet's professional company while continuing to work on their technique. A trainee may receive a stipend and shoe allowance.
