The following questions are answered on this page:

Where are the theaters located?

The Ohio Theatre is located at 39 E. State Street between High and Third streets, across from the Statehouse. The Ohio Theatre Box Office and Will Call window are located inside the State Street entrance. The phone number for the Ohio Theatre Box Office is 614.469.0939.

The Capitol Theatre is located on the third floor of the Vern Riffe Center at 77 S. High Street. The building is on the Northwest corner of State and High streets, across from the Statehouse. The Box Office and Will Call window for the Capitol Theatre are located just inside the High Street entrance of the Riffe Center. The phone number for the Riffe Center Box Office is 614.460.7214.

The BalletMet Performance Space is located behind the BalletMet Dance Centre at 322 Mount Vernon Avenue with free parking in the adjacent parking lot. The Will Call window and Box Office are located in the entry way of the building prior to each performance. The phone number for the BalletMet Box Office is 614.229.4848.

Where can I park?

There are three main parking garages near both the Ohio and the Capitol theaters, as well as metered street parking available. Most street parking is free after 6 p.m. and on Sundays but spaces are limited.

City Center Parking Garages ($2 after 6 p.m., and on weekends)
Enter from Third Street for the underground parking or Rich or Main streets for the high rise garage. Enjoy some of the shopping pleasures that City Center affords you as you pass through the mall. Exit on Level 1 by the Ohio Theatre/ Galbreath Pavilion exit. Patrons with tickets in hand may enter through the Galbreath Pavilion door. For Will Call and all other tickets please go to the Box Office located at the front of the theater on State Street.

Ohio Statehouse Parking Garage
Enter from westbound Broad Street or from Third Street.

Riffe Center Parking Garage
Enter from Front Street. Take the elevators to the third floor and proceed along the long hall to the Capitol Theatre. (If you need to visit the Box Office you must then descend the main set of escalators to the first floor)

Downtown traffic can be heavy, especially during The Nutcracker season so please allow adequate time to park and arrive at the theater.  Audience members who arrive late may not be seated until intermission. If you arrive with 20-30 minutes to spare you can park, get to the theater, find your seats, have a look at the program and be relaxed to enjoy the performance.

What should I wear?

We want you to feel comfortable, to be yourself and enjoy the performance. Although evening performances tend to be dressier, anything goes at the ballet - from jeans to suits, slacks to dresses.

How do I find out more about what I will be seeing?

If the ballet has been previously performed by BalletMet then background information on the work may be found in the BalletNotes section of this web site.

BalletMet offers free pre-performance discussions at select performances. Contact the BalletMet Box Office for dates. These discussions, often led by members of the Artistic staff offer the opportunity to learn more about the evening's performance. Discussions are held in the Galbreath Pavilion at the Ohio Theatre or in the main lobby of the Capitol Theatre. No reservations are required.

BalletMet also hosts Sneak Peeks at select performances. These events are geared to giving younger members of the audience a behind the scenes look at the ballet they will later view. At these interactive presentations audience members may learn some moves from the ballet, meet some of the performers, see costumes or learn more about the story.

For more information about pre-performance discussions or Sneak Peeks, please call the BalletMet Box Office at 614.229.4848.

Can I bring my children?

Children are always welcome at BalletMet, however, not all ballets are suitable for children of all ages. Please carefully consider the performance and the maturity of your child when making the final decision on this matter. Please note that every one must have a purchased seat, no lap sitting is allowed. An usher will ask any patron who is crying or disruptive to exit the theatre.

Ballet Sneak Peeks (Mentioned in the paragraph above) is a great way to introduce your children to the upcoming performance. We also offer Dance Days for Kids with special programming for children.

When should I applaud?

Dancers love to hear the applause of an audience; it buoys their spirits and encourages them to dance with even more enthusiasm. Applause is also acceptable during breaks in the music, or if a dancer has performed a particularly impressive feat. The audience always shows its appreciation for the performance at the end of each act of a ballet. If it is also the end of the ballet the dancers will all return to the stage along with the conductor and in some cases the choreographer of the work. If there is live music the audience will clap when the lights go down (prior to the curtain going up) when the conductor enters the orchestra pit.

What rules apply to anyone who attends a ballet performance?

No food, drink, chewing gum, cameras, recording equipment, pagers or cell phones will be allowed inside the theatre. If you must bring a pager or cell phone, please change the alarm setting to vibrate or silent. It is especially crucial that cameras with a flash not be used during a performance, as this poses a serious danger to the performing artists on stage. Recording of the performance in any medium is a violation of copyright law.

What are the theaters' seating plans?

The BalletMet Performance Space is a 225-seat performance space with general admission seating.
